2022 TAMARACK OTTAWA RACE WEEKEND FAQ

Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend in-person races will be held May 28 and 29, 2022. Virtual Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend will run in parallel to the in-person event. Find the answers to the most frequently asked questions below:

Where can I find my 2022 Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend Results?

You can view your race results by following this link to Sportstats.ca. Any issues with your timing can be directed to corrections@sportstats.ca.

Where can I find my 2022 Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend photos?
Photos will be continually uploaded over the course of the week, keep checking back if you don’t see your photos on the first try.
May 28, 2022: Kids marathon, 2K, 5K, 10K
May 29, 2022: 21.1K, 42.2K

What is my bib number?
 You can view your bib number on this Race Roster page by entering your information. You can view your race confirmation by following the instructions by Race Roster.

Where can I pick up my Race Kit? Can someone else pick up my kit for me?
Race kits, including any t-shirts purchased during registration, will be available for pick up at the Health and Fitness Expo. Please bring your race confirmation number along with your bib number.

To have another person pick up your race kit for you at the Health and Fitness Expo, they need to have an electronic or paper copy of your confirmation and  your bib number. 

In-person registration and transfer update: 5k is sold out!

Health and Fitness Expo at the Race Roster kiosk:
Kids Marathon and 2k registration and transfers will close at 1:00pm Saturday May 28.
10k registrations and transfers will close at 3:00pm Saturday May 28
1/2 marathon and full marathon onsite registration and transfers will close at 6:00pm 


Transferring from one race distance to another
Race Roster will be onsite at the Health and Fitness Expo should you wish to transfer to a new Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend distance.

  • Before requesting a transfer at the Race Roster kiosk, your original bib must be retrieved from the race kit pick up kiosks as your original race bib will be given to the onsite Race Roster staff.
  • Participants changing to a shorter distance at the Expo will be responsible for a $5 transfer fee, taxes and processing fees.  Partial refunds are not provided should you wish to change your event to a shorter distance. 
  • Participants changing to a longer distance race will have their initial registration fees act as a credit toward their new event registration. Participants transferring to a longer race will be responsible for the difference in price from their initial registration to current fee structure of the new event, taxes, processing fees and $5 transfer fee. 

Transfers from one person to a new participant

Race Roster will be onsite at the Health and Fitness Expo should you wish to transfer your registration to a new participant. This transfer is to be used if you can no longer participate and you wish to transfer your entry to another person.

Participant to Participant transfer information:

  • Before requesting a transfer at the Race Roster kiosk, the original bib must be retrieved from the race kit pick up kiosks. A copy of the race confirmation number and bib number will be needed to retrieve the original race kit. 
  • The new participant will be expected to show permission to transfer has been granted. This can be an email or handwritten note giving  permission if both parties cannot be onsite at the Expo.  As well as a copy of the race confirmation  and  bib number. must be provided as well as written or in-person permission. 
  • Participant to new participant transfers are subject to a fee of $20.00 +taxes and processing fees, and is charged to the new participant.  The new participant must be onsite for the transfer to sign the waiver. 
  • Race Roster does not provide refunds on the original purchase, reimbursement arrangements are to be made privately between the original participant and the new.

Can I push a stroller during my race? Can I use a backpack child carrier on any of Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend courses?

With the exception of the Ottawa 2K, baby joggers and strollers are not permitted. Backpack child carriers are not permitted on any Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend courses. 

What are the time limits for finishing my race and what happens if I can’t make that timeline on race day?

Marathon finisher limit is 7 hours; all marathon athletes must be able to make the 25 km mark within 4 hours of start time, otherwise they will be redirected to the finish line.

Will there be walk categories for the virtual and in-person event?

YES! We noticed so many participants walking, speed walking, pole walking etc. during the previous Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekends. This allowed for participants to complete longer distances and achieve larger goals! You can select a walking option during your event registration for each distance. This way, your results will be listed with others who are walking the events just like yourself! 

What will be included in the 2022 race kit?

Where can I purchase a race shirt?

With the commitment to going green, t-shirts will be an add-on purchase during registration or the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend store. This initiative eliminates unwanted shirts from ending up at the bottom of your closet or in landfills. These high quality shirts are sure to be a favourite for years to come.

How can I personalize my medal?

iTAB fits perfectly onto the ribbon of your Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend medal, engraved with your Name and Finish Time, and is a great way to celebrate your achievement. Your personalized iTab will be mailed directly to you within one month of the completion of your 2022 virtual race. If you did not order yours upon registering, you can order it now through the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend store.

 

 Virtual Participant FAQ

Will there be race results for the virtual event?

Yes! Our virtual timing partner, Race Roster, is set-up to receive virtual race results, starting May 28.
You can download the ASICS® RunKeeper tracking app for iOS or Android, or use your running watch or GPS device to record your time.
Instructions to upload your virtual race time can be found here, and your results will be uploaded to your Race Roster dashboard. 

How and when do Virtual Participants receive their race kits?

Out of town Virtual participants will receive their race kits by mail. We expect all virtual race kits will be mailed out mid June via Canada post.

Virtual Participants living in the Ottawa area can pick up their race kits at the Health and Fitness Expo at the Shaw Centre.

Race kit pick up hours: 

  • Thursday, May 26 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • Friday, May 27 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 28 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Virtual Race kits that aren’t picked up will be mailed or delivered beginning mid-June. 

 

Fundraising questions

 When can I register for the charity challenge?

You raised $1.2 million dollars for charities in 2021! Let’s do it again! You can create or join a team and start fundraising  for one of the charities in the Charity Challenge. The charities registered with Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend need our help now more than ever. We are inviting and encouraging all runners to fundraise and promote their favourite causes.  Every participant who raises $500.00 or more will receive a free entry into Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend 2023.

Race Day questions

What are the race course protocols?

Runners must follow and stay on the course at all times. In most cases, the entire road is at the runner’s disposal. Where cones are used, shortening the course by not following the cone line is against the rules and may expose runners to unsafe conditions. Runners will be disqualified if they do not follow the course route. Participants may not use curbs, sidewalks, or grass surfaces, as they are not part of the measured course. Participants agree to follow the instructions of race, medical and police officials. Failure to follow the course rules can result in disqualification.

Can I push a stroller during my race? Can I use a backpack child carrier on any of Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend courses?

With the exception of the Ottawa 2K, baby joggers and strollers are not permitted. Backpack child carriers are not permitted on any Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend courses. 

What, if any, mechanical assistance devices can I use?

In-line skates, scooters, or any other mechanical assistance are not permitted in any event. For athletes with disabilities please refer to our Athletes with Disabilities page for details.

Can I run with my dog? 

Dogs, with the exception of service animals, are not permitted in any of the events.

Can I run with headphones?

While the use of headphones is permitted on the course, they are not recommended.

Where do I attach my race bib?

Runners must wear their bib so that it is visible to marshalls. Runners who fail to do so are subject to expulsion.

 

I saved my 50% discount code from my 2020 registration for the live event in 2022 How do I redeem this?

Should you choose to use your unredeemed 50% promo code for the 2022 Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend, please enter your unique promo code in the ‘APPLY PROMO CODE’ at the bottom of the registration form in Race Roster.

2020 participants who’ve not redeemed their unique promo code can find their unique promo code on their Race Roster dashboard.  

Instructions on how to find your unique promo code in Race Roster:

  1. Log into your Race Roster profile following this link. 
  2. Select ‘Show All’ beneath Additional details menu, the dropdown will display your unique promo code.  This promo code will provide a 50% discount on any Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend distance or challenge. 
  3. Be sure to copy your unique promo code to accurately transfer it to your 2022 Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend registration. 

Your unique promo code was also mailed to you on December 11, 2020 in an email titled “Tamarack Ottawa Virtual Race Weekend 2020 – 50% Off Code”

If you signed up for 3 sub-events (example: 5k, 10k and half) OR signed up multiple individuals then you would have received separate emails with different promo codes for each distance. Each entry has its own promo code.

You also have the option to redeem your promo code for the 2023 event, unredeemed promo codes will be rolled into the 2023 event automatically. 

NOTE:

  • This one-time-use code can only be used by the 2020 participant for ONE distance or challenge. 
  • You cannot transfer your discount code to another person. 
  • Your purchase with your code is non-refundable and must be redeemed by the Closing Date of 2023.

Cancellation, insurance and COVID-19 questions

What happens if we’re in lockdown due to COVID-19?

 Should the in-person edition of Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend be cancelled due to COVID-19, the event will go 100% virtual. Virtual event FAQ can be found below.

 

Those who’ve purchased the additional COVID-19 cancellation insurance can action their policy, which will entitle them to a refund on their registration, transaction fees and t-shirt purchases. 

 What insurance policies are you offering and why should I buy them? How do I file a claim? Can I make my claim for the virtual event?

 

Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend 2022 has 3 insurance offerings:

  • Adventure Advocates is included in your registration and will cover your purchase if the event is cancelled due to difficult weather conditions, terrorism and other acts of God. 
  • During registration you will be offered a policy through Fanshield. Fanshield will cover your registration should a participant become injured or ill, be deployed with the military or have a death in the family.  This policy is only available during registration and can’t be applied retroactively. The fee structure of this policy is calculated as a percentage of your final race fees. View FanShield’s FAQ page here. 
  • When you purchase a protection policy through FanShield, you will receive an email directly from them with the information on how to file a claim. If you did not see the email, you may go to this link to file your claim: https://refundrequest.fanshield.net/#/. Please note the FanShield policies in regards to COVID-19

Should Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend be cancelled due to COVID-19, Run Ottawa is pleased to offer full protection for your registration fees. This includes any processing fees and any undelivered purchases such as your t-shirt. This policy costs $3.50 and is applied to individual registrations, meaning it is $3.50 per person.

You can purchase this policy during registration or through the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend store.  If you are participating virtually, you do not need this policy as the virtual event won’t be cancelled.

What COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place for Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend 2022?

Our priority is to protect the health and safety of our participants, volunteers, and staff. To ensure this, we will comply with all applicable public health guidelines or requirements issued by the Ontario government and Ottawa Public Health. 

The guidelines regarding the reopening of Ontario are subject to change. Run Ottawa’s COVID mitigation plan will be made available in advance of the event. Please review your emails prior to the event, or follow Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend via the app for iOS or Android, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.

Will vaccines be mandatory in order to participate in Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend 2022?

Run Ottawa and Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend will continue to follow all Public Health regulations for Covid-19. Please refer to the Ontario Public Health webpage for up to date information.
