There is a 7 hour enforced time limit for marathon. Runners who have not crossed the Alexandra bridge in 4:30 from the start time(7:00am) will be directed towards the finish line. This is in keeping with our policy of the maximum 7 hour time limit. |
The marathon features a fast, scenic route with few elevation changes and travels through some of Ottawa's most vibrant neighbourhoods and popular landmarks. The race is open to all and no qualifying time is required. Considered to be an excellent course for first timers, it should provide an environment conducive to setting a PR. It is a unique course in that it travels through two Canadian provinces.

The course may change slightly once the distance is certified in accordance with AIMS and IAAF specifications. The start of the marathon will be on Laureir Avenue 7:00 a.m.at Elgin Street intersection. The route will travel as follows:
Start on Elgin Street and head north on Elgin Street to Wellington and turn right;
Continue on Wellington to Colonel By Dr. follow to Hawthorne and turn right onto Pretoria Bridge; Once you cross Pretoria Bridge turn left onto Queen Elizabeth Driveway;
Continue along QE Driveway to Preston Street
Turn right onto Preston and continue north to Carling Avenue;
Turn left onto Carling and continue westbound to Sherwood Drive;
Turn right onto Sherwood and continue to Fairmont Drive;
Turn right onto Fairmont and continue to Wellington Street;
Left on Wellington until it turns into Richmond Road (after crossing Island Park Drive);
Continue on Richmond Road to Athlone Avenue;
Right on Athlone to Scott Street;
Right on Scott and continue east on Scott to Frederick Banting Parkway;
Left on Frederick Banting and continue to Columbine Parkway;
Right on Columbine and continue to Parkdale Avenue;
Left on Parkdale and then left onto the Ottawa River Parkway via the Parkdale off ramp;
Head west on the off ramp and merge onto the eastbound lane of the ORP;
Continue on the ORP to a turn around point approximately 150m from Island Park Drive;
Make the right turn onto the westbound lanes of the ORP and head east;
Continue east to the Canadian War Museum at ORP & Booth Street;
Turn left onto Booth towards the city of Gatineau via Chaudiere Bridge;
Cross the Chaudiere Bridge, continue onto Eddy Street to Alexandre Tache Blvd.;
Left on Alexandre Tache and continue to Rue Scott;
Turn right onto Scott until it merges with Graham, continue on Graham to Lac des Fees;
Turn onto Lac de Fees Parkway and continue to St. Jean Bosco;
Right on St. Jean Bosco and continue until you cross St. Joseph Blvd. up to Lois;
Left on Lois and continue to Montcalm;
Right on Montcalm and continue to Wellington;
Left on Wellington and continue to Laval;
Left on Laval and continue to Hotel de Ville;
Right on Hotel de Ville and continue down to Laurier;
Left on Laurier and continue, past the Museum and veer right onto Alummetieres;
Right on Alummetieres and continue over the Alexandra Bridge back to Ottawa;
Continue on St. Patrick Street to Sussex Drive.
Proceed northbound on Sussex and continue past 24 Sussex and Rideau Gate and continue to the Rockliffe Parkway;
Stay left of the traffic circle onto Rockliffe Parkway and continue to Beuna Vista;
Turn left right onto Beuna Vista then left onto Lisgar Road;
Continue on Lisgar Road until it meets up with the Rockliffe Parkway;
Turn right onto Rockliffe Parkway and head east to Birch Avenue exit;
Turn right onto Birch, cross Sandridge and continue south to Hemlock Road;
Turn right onto Hemlock and head west until it turns into Beechwood Road;
Take Beechwood to Crichton St; Turn right onto Crichton and continue to Dufferin Road;
Turn left on Dufferin and merge onto Stanley Avenue;
Take Stanley north to Sussex Drive;
Turn left on Sussex and continue southbound all the way down to Rideau Street and continue across Rideau to Colonel By Drive;
Continue on Col. By Drive to Hawthorne Avenue;
Turn right on Hawthorne, cross Pretoria Bridge and then onto Queen Elizabeth Drive;
Continue on QE Drive to the finish line.
