Jenn Tuthill: Championing Autism Ontario, a cause close to the heart
Every year, runners from across the country gather for Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend, pushing themselves to new limits and celebrating the sport they all love. This year, Jenn Tuthill is taking on a challenge that goes beyond her own personal goals—she will be running the Ottawa 59.2K Challenge in a single day to raise funds for Autism Ontario through the Desjardins Charity Challenge.
A challenge with a unique twist
For those unfamiliar, the 59.2K Challenge is typically completed over two days, combining the Ottawa 2K, Ottawa 5K and Ottawa 10K presented by Otto’s Ottawa on Saturday, followed by the Tartan Ottawa International Marathon (42.2K) on Sunday. Since Tuthill, Run Ottawa’s Social Media Manager, will be working around the clock during Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend, she has decided to take it a step further—running all four events back-to-back in a single day, a few weeks after Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend, starting with the shorter distances before tackling the full marathon, all in one go.
Why Autism Ontario?
Tuthill’s motivation for this challenge is deeply personal. As a mother of three, she has experienced firsthand the joys and challenges of raising children on the autism spectrum—her oldest and youngest children have both been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
“Autism Ontario is an incredible organization dedicated to supporting individuals on the autism spectrum and their families,” Tuthill says. “Their work provides essential programs, advocacy, and resources that make a real difference in people’s lives.” By taking on this challenge, she hopes to raise awareness and funds to help them continue their mission.
A physical and mental challenge
Running 59.2 kilometres in a single day will be one of the toughest challenges Tuthill has ever faced. It’s not just about endurance—it’s about pacing, recovery, and mental grit. But she knows that every step she takes will be fueled by a greater purpose, knowing that her effort is helping to support a community that deserves more recognition and resources. When asked about the challenge ahead she says “there will be tough moments, but when I think about the families who rely on Autism Ontario, I know I can keep pushing forward. Anything is possible with determination and support.”
A virtual challenge with a lasting impact
Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend is a celebration of strength, unity, and perseverance. And although Tuthill will be completing her challenge virtually, it will still be an unforgettable experience—one fueled by love for her children and a desire to make a meaningful impact in the autism community.
With the support of her team of coworkers at Run Ottawa and her friends in the running community, she is ready to take on this incredible challenge—one step at a time.
