Course highlights of the 40th anniversary of the Ottawa 10K presented by Otto’s Ottawa
A scenic spring race through the heart of the capital
Whether you’re a seasoned runner, weekend walker, or lacing up for your very first 10K, the Ottawa 10K presented by Otto’s Ottawa is more than a race—it’s a springtime celebration of community, movement, and some of the most beautiful sights in the nation’s capital. In this special 40th anniversary year, every step carries the spirit of four decades of running, memories, and milestones.
With every stride, you’ll experience a race course that’s as inspiring as the people running it. From iconic bridges to blooming tulips, here’s a look at the memorable landmarks you’ll pass on your 10K journey through the heart of Ottawa.
Starting strong at Ottawa City Hall
The race begins at Ottawa City Hall, where thousands of participants come together for one unforgettable evening. The energy is electric, filled with pre-race jitters, high-fives, and a shared sense of excitement. Whether you’re aiming for a personal best or soaking in every step, you’re in good company. The race is also home to the 2025 Athletics Canada Canadian 10K Championships. In 2024, Champion Ben Flanagan set a new Canadian Championship record, making the Ottawa 10K presented by Otto’s Ottawa the fastest 10K course in Canada! He’s back again this year to defend his title.
Rideau Canal: Ottawa’s crown jewel
From the start, you’ll head down Elgin Street straight for the Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a classic Ottawa backdrop. The Queen Elizabeth driveway will provide participants with scenic views filled with spring greenery. It’s the perfect place to find your rhythm and settle into your stride.
Flora Footbridge: A modern landmark
As the route continues, you’ll pass the sleek and elegant Flora Footbridge, linking Old Ottawa East with the Glebe. This architectural gem is a symbol of connection—just like the Ottawa 10K, which brings together runners and walkers of all backgrounds and paces.
Lansdowne Park & Stadium Energy
Next, you’ll pass by Lansdowne Park which is home to many of Ottawa’s biggest events, and sports teams including the Ottawa RedBlacks, Ottawa Charge, Atletico, Rapid FC, and the Ottawa 67s. On race day, the energy on course is just as electric as it is in the stands. You can feel the cheers carrying across the pavement, pushing you forward as you head toward one of the most picturesque parts of the course.
Tulips at Dow’s Lake
Rounding the bend, you’ll reach Dow’s Lake, where Ottawa’s famous tulips are in full bloom. This stretch is a true showstopper. Whether you pause for a photo or power through with a smile, this colourful section is a highlight for everyone on the course.
Bronson Bridge crossing
You’ll then take the Bronson Bridge over to Colonel By Drive, offering one last look at Dow’s Lake before heading back toward the core of the city. This is where the course begins to loop back—and the cheers get louder as you start to close in on the finish.
Pretoria Bridge crossing back
You’ll cross the Pretoria Bridge to return to the Queen Elizabeth Driveway side of the canal. This heritage ‘table bridge’ is a local favourite and a powerful marker that you’re in the home stretch. Take in the view and enjoy the support of the cheering crowds—it’s a special moment.
Corktown Footbridge: A symbol of support
As you pass the charming Corktown Footbridge, you’re surrounded by love—literally. This iconic pedestrian bridge, known for its thousands of “love locks,” is a fan favourite and a fitting final landmark before your last push to the finish.
A grand canal-side finish
Your final stretch runs along the canal with Chateau Laurier in view, music in the air, and crowds of spectators cheering you home. Whether you’re flying toward the finish or soaking in every step, the last few hundred metres are packed with energy, celebration, and pride.
Cross that finish line knowing you’ve just completed one of Canada’s most scenic and spirited 10Ks. And no matter your pace or your goal, you’ve done something amazing!
The Ottawa 10K presented by Otto’s Ottawa is where history, community, and beauty all come together for one unforgettable experience. We can’t wait to welcome you to the start line—and cheer you across the finish.
