Wodak and Flanagan win top spots at Canadian 10K Championships
Following 2 years of virtual races, live event resumes
Ottawa, May 28, 2022 – Results of the Athletics Canada Canadian 10K Championships at the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend are as follows:
First-place finisher in the women’s category was 40-year-old Natasha Wodak of West Vancouver, with a time of 32:42. In second and third places were Leslie Sexton, 35, also from Vancouver in 32:56 minutes, and Toronto’s Sasha Gollish, 40, in 33:03.
Taking first place in the men’s category with a time of 28:40 was Ben Flanagan, 27, from Kitchener, Ontario. Second place finisher was Calgary, Alberta’s Rory Linkletter, 25, with a time of 29:02, and in third place with 29:05 was Lucas Bruchet, 31, from White Rock, British Columbia.
Gender Challenge
First, second, and third place prizes for women and men are $6,000, $4,000 and $3,000 respectively. In addition to his first place prize, Ben Flanagan takes home an additional $1,000 for winning the Gender Competition. In Ottawa, women racers are given a lead time of 3 minutes 14 seconds ahead of the men racers. Whoever crosses the finish line first receives the Gender Competition prize.Â
Desjardins Charity Challenge
This year, the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend is donating $1,000 to the 10K champions to give to their charity of choice as part of the Desjardins Charity Challenge. Natasha Wodak’s charity of choice is the Ottawa Humane Society, and Ben Flanagan’s is Cystic Fibrosis Canada.Â
