Ottawa 10K

Elite Runner Community Challenge

The 2018 Ottawa 10k is introducing a new team format that will give 16 professional/elite runners the opportunity to compete for a prize purse of over $60,000, while supporting local community organizations.

Team selection

Four community organizations in Ottawa will be drafting teams of 4 runners who will run to win prize money for themselves, and charity dollars for the organization!

The teams will be picked from 3 pools of runners:

  • Group 1: 7 Invited IAAF gold label women
  • Group 2: 7 Invited IAAF gold label men
  • Group 3: 2 “wildcard” athletes from the registered elite field (no restriction on men vs. women).

In addition to the prize purse, athletes will also receive prize money based on when they get drafted e.g., the first athlete to be drafted receives $4,000, the second $3,000, down to $500.

Team competition

The four teams of four runners (16 runners total) will compete in the Ottawa 10k as part of the elite field and are eligible for all applicable prizes, except the Ottawa 10k open prize money.

The women’s elite field will get a head start time that will be announced in April.

Teams will be scored and win the team competition purses based on their finishing position against the other team runners, regardless of gender. Cross-country running style scoring will be used.

The winning team will win $2,000 to be split evenly between the four athletes, in addition to individual prizes based on their finishing positions.
