Canadian Marathon, Half Marathon Record Holder Cam Levins to Compete at Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend

Ottawa, ON – Fresh off his Canadian Marathon record of 2:05:36 at the 2023 Tokyo Marathon, Cam Levins will make his debut appearance at the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend. Levins will headline a deep field for the Canadian 10K Championships which is held as part of the Ottawa 10K presented by Otto’s Ottawa.

Hailing from Campbell River, BC, Levins, 34, is one of the greatest distance runners in Canadian history. Not only is he the Canadian record holder for the marathon and half marathon (60:18), he has also represented Canada on the world stage across a number of distances and events including the London 2012 Olympics (5,000m and 10,000m) and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (marathon).

Perhaps his most outstanding achievement in a Canadian vest occurred at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon where Levins finished 4th in the world in the marathon.

Levins currently resides and trains in Portland, Oregon.

Levins is running in Ottawa as he prepares for this year’s World Championships in Budapest Hungary, “I think it’s important to do under distance races like the 10k, even while training for the marathon, since you still need to be prepared to finish fast and it provides good development and stimulus during a build-up.”

Although Levins can race anywhere in the world, racing in Canada means a lot to him, “the opportunity to run in such a competitive field in Canada is really great,” added Levins. “Ottawa has always been an event at which I’ve wanted to race.”

“Having Cam run the Ottawa 10K presented by Otto’s Ottawa is huge for the race,” said Dylan Wykes, Elite Athlete Coordinator. “Cam has proven to be a medal contender on the roads in both the Olympics and the World Championships and we are excited to host him in Ottawa.”

Wykes continued, “Cam is one of the greatest runners in our country’s history. We expect a great crowd for the Canadian 10K Championships and it will be exciting to provide Cam with a hometown crowd.”

Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend is Canada’s biggest race weekend and will run on May 27-28, 2023. You can learn more and register by visiting www.runottawa.ca.
