It’s back! Everyone loves to run for cookies! For over 20 years, we’ve been proud to bring you Ottawa’s one and only cookie run in support of the local Girl Guides! Grab a friend and join the community for this fun, yet fast, 5K at Lansdowne Park!

Date: Sunday, November 7, 2021
Location: Lansdowne Park
Start time: 10:00 am (waves will be determined closer to race day in alignment with Ontario’s COVID guidelines)
PLEASE NOTE: COVID vaccination (2x) is required to participate, and proof of vaccination will be required to be presented at race kit pick-up.
Athletes competing with Wheelchair – This race navigates over curbs, gravel paths, and sidewalks making it unsuitable for wheelchair racing. It may be suitable for recreational competitors.
Q) Is this event live? What happens if we’re back in lockdown?
Great Big Cookie Run is live and virtual! GBCR will go 100% virtual in accordance with the Ottawa Public Health regulations should the City of Ottawa return to a lockdown. You will have the option to do the race virtually or Run Ottawa will refund your registration fee. Your additional purchases are yours to keep.
Q) What COVID-19 safety protocols will be in place for this event?
Our priority is to protect the health and safety of our participants, volunteers, and staff. To ensure this, we will comply with all applicable public health guidelines or requirements issued by the Ontario government and Ottawa Public Health.
The guidelines regarding the reopening of Ontario are subject to change. Run Ottawa’s COVID mitigation plan will be made available in advance of the event. Please review your emails prior to the event, or follow Run Ottawa on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram.
Q) I’m not comfortable running in groups yet, is there a virtual event?
Yes, we’re having a virtual Great Big Cookie Run parallel to the in-person event.
Q) Is proof of vaccination needed to participate in the Great Big Cookie Run?
Yes. A paper or digital copy of proof of vaccination is mandatory and will be required to be presented at race kit pick-up. The name on the proof of vaccination must match the name on your Great Big Cookie Run registration. We only need to see your proof of vaccination, we won’t be storing or recording any sensitive information.
Q) I can’t get vaccinated for medical reasons, may I still participate?

Q) Can I pick up my race kit in person or are you mailing kits?
Details coming soon for both virtual and in-person race kit pick up.
Q) I ordered a t-shirt and other items , will those be in my race kit?
Yes, purchased shirts and fuel packs will be in your race kit.
Q) Will there be race day parking?
Parking at Lansdowne is limited, but there is nearby street parking available. Please follow all signs and restrictions.
There are bike paths and public transit routes that go directly to the race venue.
Q) Will there be washrooms available?
Comfort stations will be available within close proximity of the start/finish line. Please wear a mask.
Q) Can I run with a stroller?
For our in-person event, we ask that strollers and their occupants be cared for at home. If this isn’t possible, we are happy to transfer you to the virtual event, where you can run with your stroller.
Q) Will times be uploaded onto SportsStats?
Yes, if everything goes as planned, the timing will be official and uploaded to SportsStats.
Q) What goodies are in the race kit?
Registration includes a box of GirlGuide cookies, timing, and free downloadable race photos.
Shirts are available for purchase during registration.
Q) I didn’t buy a shirt or a fuel pack when I registered, how can I get those items now?
On the event page, you’ll see a ‘Store’ button in blue, select that, confirm your registration and proceed to the event store, there you can purchase a t-shirt, nutrition and other goodies!
Virtual Participant FAQ
This is YOUR race! You can run or walk any time on November 7, 2021. Choose a route in your neighbourhood or visit somewhere special while adhering to your local Public Health guidelines on your race day.
Q) Will there be race results for the virtual event?
Participants can use RunKeeper or their favourite running app or device (Garmin, Strava, MapMyRun, etc.) to track your results. You will be able to upload results to Race Roster starting November 7,2021. Please follow the step-by-step instructions provided to you by email on how to upload your results to Race Roster. If you have any questions around timing your race, please visit Race Roster’s tutorial on how to use RunKeeper to track your Great Big Cookie Run.
Q) What participant amenities will I receive for the virtual event and how will I receive my race kit?
Virtual participant’s kits include a bib, cookies, and any additional purchases you’ve made through the Great Big Cookie Run store.
Virtual participants can pick up their race kits in the times/places listed below. Virtual participants who are unable to pick up their race kits will have their kits mailed to them the first week of November.
