Women-only Émilie’s Run set for April 21 at the Experimental Farm

Ottawa, January 22, 2018 — Run Ottawa has announced that this year’s Émilie’s Run – its competitive women-only 5K race – will take place Saturday, April 21 at the Experimental Farm.

“We made the decision to change the race date from September to April to allow runners to use the event as a training run for the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend,” said John Halvorsen, President, Run Ottawa. “We also decided to move the event from the Aviation Parkway to the Experimental Farm, as it’s more central and spectator-friendly, and has also proven to be a really fast and flat 5k course.”

The Experimental Farm has been the home of Run Ottawa’s popular Free 5K series for the past 4 years.

Émilie’s Run takes place on an Athletics Canada/Run Canada certified course. Since inception, the race has been draw for Canada and the world’s fastest elite female runners, like New Zealand’s Mary Davies and Kenya’s Lucy Njeri Macharia. Canadian Rachel Hannah is the event’s only three-time champion, and also set the course record of 15:57.5 in 2014. In 2017, Julie-Anne Staehli of Kingston, ON won in 16:25.8.

The race, which started in 2005, was renamed Émilie’s Run in 2007 in memory of Émilie Mondor, an Olympian at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and the first Canadian woman to run sub 15:00 for 5K. Mondor, who was born in Mascouche, Quebec, was killed in a car accident on September 9th, 2006, at the age of 25.

A new look for the Run Ottawa website

It might be the dog days of summer, but we haven’t been dragging our feet! As we gear up to launch 2018 Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend registration on September 1, we thought it would be a great opportunity to spruce up our website and make information easier for you to find.

Our website has always served two purposes: to house information about race weekend, as well as information for local runners and Run Ottawa members. So, we’ve divided the site into two using the tabs at the top of the page.

Now you can find information about the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend by clicking the Race Weekend tab. In this menu you’ll see things broken down by category, such as race information, planning your weekend, spectators, volunteers and more. We’ve even added a few new pages to help you learn more about our events and our city.

To find information about Run Ottawa and its races throughout the year, such as Émilie’s Run 5K and the Free Saturday 5K, click on the Run Ottawa tab in the upper left corner of the screen.

While things might look different, what won’t change is the same great content that we post on our blog.
