Run Ottawa announces the designation of three 2025 Athletics Canada Road Race Labels
“The growth of the Road Race Label Program going into its third season is a testament to the strength and dedication of the Canadian running community.” —Chris Winter, Athletics Canada’s Director of Domestic Programs and Safe Sport.
Run Ottawa is proud to announce the designation of three 2025 Athletics Canada Road Race Labels at the following events:
- The Tartan Ottawa International Marathon
- Ottawa 10K presented by Otto’s Ottawa home to the Canadian 10K Championships
- NEW for 2025: Desjardins Run to Empower
Through the Elite Athlete Program, Run Ottawa aims to support Canadian runners while recognizing the significance of the global running community and celebrating exceptional performance.
An Athletics Canada Road Race Label denotes a full application of the Competition and Technical Rules in the elite component of the competition. Labels also denote superior standards in event organization, safety and runner experience, support from public authorities to the event; minimum prize purse for elite athletes, and a financial commitment to anti-doping.
In 2024, Ontario’s 29-year-old Ben Flanagan shattered the Canadian Championship record at the Ottawa 10K presented by Otto’s Ottawa, blazing across the finish line with an impressive time of 28:09. The Athletics Canada 10K Road Race Championship will continue to be held in Ottawa in 2025, and Run Ottawa’s Elite Program Director, Stephen Anderson is expecting nothing less than a caliber race from Canada’s athletes. In 2025, Canadian Athletes will take home an impressive $30,600 worth of prizing.
The prestigious Tartan Ottawa International Marathon continues to serve as both a World Athletics label and an Athletics Canada Road Race Label event. Having celebrated 50 years in 2024, it continues to draw elites from around the world to Ottawa to compete in the Nation’s Capital. Run Ottawa is proud of its reputation as a world class marathon event with a sophisticated elite hosting program and a robust prize purse of $105,000.
In 2025, the marathon course will be returning to Quebec and will claim an elevation profile that will enable runners of all levels to achieve their goals and reposition the Tartan Ottawa Int’l Marathon as one of Canada’s best Boston Qualifiers.
Making its debut this year in the Athletics Canada Road Race Label Program, Desjardins Run to Empower shines a spotlight on women of all ages, celebrating strength, determination, and empowerment every step of the way. Its elite race entitled Ottawa’s Fastest Women 5K, boasts a new prize purse of $5,600, and is open to all those who identify as female who have run a sub-20 5K in the last 2 years.
Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend 2025 is scheduled for May 24-25 in Ottawa, Canada. Registration information for its events and Run Ottawa membership can be found at www.runottawa.ca.
