Capital XC Challenge featuring the Jim Howe Memorial Cross Country Races

A lot of people love autumn for the beautiful colours and the cooler temperatures, but for runners, there’s another reason to love the season: cross-country running.

This year, Run Ottawa is partnering with the Ottawa Lions Track and Field Club to produce the first ever Capital XC Challenge featuring the Jim Howe Memorial Cross Country Races, including series for university students, alumni and open teams. This two-day event also features the Eastern Ontario Elementary School Cross Country Championships and another new series for local high school students.

Named in honour of Dr. Jim Howe, a long-time runner and respected member of the community, the Jim Howe Memorial features a classic fall 6K cross-country race through the grass, mud and woods near the Terry Fox Athletic Centre at Mooney’s Bay.

Cross-country running is a great way to mix up your training and offers a totally different experience than running on roads (which makes it a favourite of many elite runners).

As a cross-country event, the condition of the race course will vary with the weather, so we’ll be running rain or shine (or snow).

So come out and get some dirt on your shoes while you enjoy the beautiful colours and the cooler temperatures.
