We know you love the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend. We also hope you love The Ottawa Hospital. After all, one in two Ottawans will be touched by the Hospital in 2013.On May 25 and 26, 2013, don’t just run, Run for a Reason. When you run or walk in support of The Ottawa Hospital, lacing up means more than crossing the finish line in the marathon, half-marathon, 10K, 5K or 2K – it means making a difference in the life of someone that you know.
Last year, more than 2,640 dedicated runners and 48 teams raised over $545,000 for the Hospital, supporting areas that matter most to them, including cancer research, clinical trials, the neonatal intensive care unit and The Ottawa Hospital Breast Health Centre, just to name a few. That’s a $9 million difference since 1998.
So as you train for the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend 2013, ask yourself: What do you love? Then commit to making a difference and Run for a Reason.
Here’s a riddle for you. What single event is both the longest and the shortest race at the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend?
Answer: the Y Kids Marathon, an inspiring event that encourages kids to make physical activity a fun and regular part of daily life.
Leading up to race day, children track physical activities that count as “kilometers” towards completing all 42.2 km of a marathon. Then, on Sunday May 26, they complete the last 1.2 kms of their marathon by participating in a special kids-only race at the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend. So it is both the longest (taking several weeks to finish) and the shortest (being 1.2 km on race day) of all the events!
