Thanks to last year’s runners, over 10,000 pairs of gently used running shoes were handed out to refugees in Yemen. These refugees fled strife in Somalia and Ethiopia and crossed by water to Yemen to reach safety, no longer with any belongings. Your shoes made a difference! Local high school students also received some of your donations. The shoes enabled them to participate in track and field when their families didn’t have the means to buy proper footwear. Thank you for your contributions!
And this year we’re doing it again!
Please bring your gently used adult and children’s running shoes to Race Registration and drop them at the Sole Responsibility booth. We will also be accepting Toonies to cover the costs of shipping. Then, working with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), we will make sure your shoes get into the hands of those who need them. This year we will be sending shoes to refugees in Rwanda, as well as locally underprivileged youth. Thank you!
