Registration for the 2014 Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend opened on September 3rd, and we’re off to a furious pace—over 2,500 runners signed up on the first day alone, another record for race weekend.
There are lots of reasons for signing up early. With races selling out faster every year, it’s a good idea to get that race bib locked down. We’ll be giving registration updates on Facebook and Twitter, but sell-outs can happen fast. Don’t miss out! Second, registering for your race in the fall puts you in the mental game early. As soon as you sign up, you’ve started on the journey—and what a great journey it is! Bibs are transferrable (up to a point), so there’s always an out if life gets in the way.
*For our marathon runners, there is a third reason to sign up early. Check out the next section on the 40th Anniversary Book to find out more.
40th Anniversary Book
As you have probably heard by now, this year is the 40th anniversary of the Ottawa Marathon. What started in 1975 with a small handful of runners is now an IAAF Silver Label event with over 6000 participants.
One of the ways we are celebrating the milestone is to put together a 40th anniversary book with the history of this now famous spring Ottawa tradition. Written by long-time Ottawa runner/broadcaster Mark Sutcliffe, and filled with images from the past 40 years, this will be a wonderful keepsake. Look for the checkbox on your online registration form to order the book automatically.
As a special nod to those running in our anniversary 42.2 km event, marathon participants who sign up before December 1st, 2013 will receive the book automatically with their entry. Another reason to sign up early!
Have a great photograph (like this one submitted last month) of the Ottawa Marathon or any of the other events from race weekend? We’re collecting memories for the 40th anniversary book. Share them with us at [email protected]
40th Anniversary Marathon T-shirt
Because 40th birthdays deserve a little extra celebration, we designed a special shirt for participants in the landmark 42.2 km event. The fully sublimated shirt (which means it uses an all-over printing technique) takes inspiration from our beautiful capital city. It’s red and white for the obvious reasons (this is Canada’s marathon championships after all) and has a refined, one might even say reserved, façade that turns to reveal its bold, fun-loving side.
It’s Ottawa + 42.2 km + 40 years running = sweet shirt!
There are lots of great events coming up on the Run Ottawa calendar. To get a better sense of the personality of the 5K and Jim Howe events, check out this month’s Le Mot de Joe.
