August 2013

LORDY, LORDY, LOOK WHO’S 40!

It’s hard to believe, but on May 25th, 2014 the Ottawa Marathon will turn the big 4-0. What started in 1975 with 146 runners is now Canada’s largest marathon with over 6,200 runners taking on the classic 42.2 km event.

And we need your help to get ready for the party!

Have a great picture of the Ottawa Marathon from the 70s, 80s, or 90s? Saved vintage memorabilia like old race t-shirts, bibs or posters? We’re putting together a 40th Anniversary Book and we are looking for your images and stories. If you have a photo or story to share, please email us at [email protected].

We’ll be following up with more 40th anniversary news as next year’s event approaches. It’s going to be a special year, so stay tuned, and make sure to register early. And on that note . . .

REGISTRATION TIME IS ALMOST HERE!

It only seems like yesterday that we were celebrating records, taking down Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend signs, and getting down some electrolytes. But the months roll on and it’s almost time to start dreaming of a whole new year of PBs and high-fives. Almost.

This is just a friendly heads up that registration for the 2014 Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend will be opening September 3rd, 2013.

Last year all events sold out in record time, with the 10K and Half-Marathon especially hot commodities. So, we recommend getting in early and dreaming big (or dreaming big and getting in early). Either works. Just don’t miss out!

TAKING THE PULSE

Did you know that there are over 60,000 subscribers to the Pulse? That’s a fantastic community of runners that we at Run Ottawa feel privileged to talk to every month. Thank you for reading!

To keep us on our toes (only forefoot striking here) and to continue to serve our great community of runners, we are going to try a few new things over the coming months.

First up, we are happy to introduce a new column written by Run Ottawa’s Director of Operations, Joe DuVall. Those who know Joe know that his passion for running is matched, even exceeded, by his dedication to putting on great races for all levels of runner. So we’re excited that Joe has agreed to keep us up-to-date on Run Ottawa events. We’re calling the column “Le Mot de Joe”, and we think you’ll find it both entertaining and useful, and maybe even inspiring. Check it out!

Second, we’re going to try and engage more frequently with our readers. Case in point, this month we’re calling for your favourite running recipes. Check out the Recipe of the Month section for more details about how to participate.

In the coming months, we’ll be introducing some new features and content, and generally trying to keep things interesting. Have a suggestion? Fire it our way at [email protected].
