On August 9th – 11th, Ottawa will welcome athletes from over 40 countries worldwide to be apart of the 2013 ITU Duathlon World Championships. Canada's capital city will host qualified men and women as they compete in the Elite U23, Elite Junior, Age Group (18-70+) and Paraduathlon races as part of the World Championships. In addition to the World Championships, there will be an Open Duathlon Race and Open 5km Run, that will allow members of the public to participate on a world-class course. The course will start at the Canadian War Museum and travel down the Ottawa River along the Sir John A Macdonald, into Tunney’s Pasture and back onto Sir John A Macdonald to make for a fast, flat course. In addition to Race Day, the weekend will also feature social events for the athletes including a runner’s expo, pasta party, opening and closing ceremonies, a parade of nations and finish with awards and post race celebration. The 27th edition of Ottawa’s original Canada Day Road Races is less than two weeks away! If your Canada Day includes running (and shouldn’t every day?) this is where you want to be on July 1st.
Organized by Run Ottawa, presented by Bushtukah, and run in support of the Kanata Food Cupboard, this popular annual event features competitive 5K and 10K races, as well as a fantastic 1K Run Fun and 100-metre Tot Trot for the kids. All participants will receive a fantastic t-shirt and stunning finisher’s medal.
